Queer as Political

PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY!

In celebration of and conjunction with Cork Pride 2011, Cork Feminista is hosting an art exhibition titled ‘Queer As Political’.  Feminist and queer theories and politics have always overlapped, intermingled and struggled with each other.  We want to take this opportunity to reflect on Pride’s inspirational history as a political and cultural struggle and the ongoing fight for access to rights, resources and equality that feminists and LGBT communities share.

We’re calling for submissions from artists interested in exploring the politics of queer identities.  Identifying as ‘queer’ is a transgressive act that challenges the dominant structures and stereotypes.  We’re looking for work that explores ways that queer identities are inherently and overtly political. The exhibition will take place as a part of Cork Pride 2011 (29th May – 6th June) at The Other Place, North Main Street, Cork.  Expressions of interest with details of the work, including format and/or dimensions, can be emailed to: corkfeminista@gmail.com by 6th May 2011.  Deadline for completed work 27th May 2011.
